I meant to post about this sooner, but I’ve been yucky sick. Yucks. Anyway… This collaboration design for charity is for sale at Goodjoe for $12. 100% of the proceeds will be donated directly to GlobalGiving.org’s Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Fund. A bunch of great artists took time out of their schedules and worked on it to support the cause. The goal is to raise $1000, so you can help out and get a great shirt at the same time.

I’m starting a new series which I’m calling “Stuff My Kid Tells Me to Draw.” I have a six year old, and often he sees me drawing and decides that what I’m working on isn’t up to his standards. Then he tells me what I SHOULD be drawing. This is one of his suggestions:

Dead Bear With Balloon Tail
“I think you should draw a bear with “X” eyes. I mean, “X” eyes because he’s dead. People have to know that he’s dead. But he should be moving around like he’s not dead. That’s funny. Oh, and he should also have a balloon tail.”

I recently had the pleasure of collaborating on a design with the amazing Edgar, and I thought I’d share the process. Whenever I look at other artists’ collaborations, I wonder how they did it and who did what, so I thought it would be neat to share how we worked on it. One of the cool things is that the title morphed along with the design. It’s kind of a long post with lots of images, so you’re going to have to click “more” to see it.

So, I’m looking for a new book to read and I’m open to suggestions. I just finished The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo series (which was pretty good), and now I’m stumped. Anyone want to be helpful and give me some good book recommendations?

His Dark Materials
A Prayer for Owen Meaney
The Dark Tower Series
Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time
Catcher in the Rye
Hitchhiker’s Guide
The Ender’s Game Series
Cat’s Cradle
Never Let Me Go
Life of Pi
And the funny writers like Chuck Klosterman and David Sedaris (but not Dave Eggers because his pretentious self-involvement gets on my nerves after awhile)

Some terrible books (in my opinion):
The Road
On the Road
LOTR
Remains of the Day
Most Classics that kids are forced to read (with a few exceptions)
Every British Period Novel that I’ve ever tried to read.

Also, there was a book that I read once that I know I really enjoyed, but I barely remember it. All I know is that I think it was by an Asian author. A girl was the main character. It was mysterious with possible weird time travel involved. And the end takes place at a cabin (I think? possibly by the ocean?) and there’s a painting in the cabin that spurs some sort of memory or realization. …if this sounds familiar to anyone let me know. I’d really like to figure out what it was.
